Why does a man play Mario? This brand new Super Mario Galaxy 2 trailer of the May-due Wii game is maybe the ideal answer to that question.
It’s not just the drilling through planets in Galaxy 2 or the bigger than a moon dragon that Mario must battle. It’s the clever use of movement by Yoshi tongue and the reinterpretation of classic Super Mario enemies like Dry Bones and Boos that make Super Mario Galaxy 2 feel fresh.
Check out some of the game’s 3D and 2D platforming action in this brand new gameplay trailer, then keep an eye peeled for hands-on gameplay impressions from today’s Nintendo media summit hitting later tonight.

When Street Fighter IV lands on the iPhone in March, it won’t be as full-featured as 2009’s console versions. Then again, it won’t cost $50, either.
Capcom confirmed today that there will only be eight fighters available in the handheld version of the game, those being Ryu, Ken, Guile, Blanka, Chun-Li, Dhalsim, M. Bison and Abel.
A reduced roster comes with a reduced price, however, with the game set to retail for $10. Not a bad deal considering the graphics and all, but that control scheme is going to take some work…

Outcast was one of those games that was so amazing most people never even got to play it. It just…shone too damn brightly. So much so that this 2010 remake of a 1999 game may well get more exposure.
Open Outcast is a fan-made mod for Crysis Wars, which seeks to recreate Appeal’s brilliant open world adventure title with visuals a little more appropriate for this third millennium. Not that Outcast’s graphics were bad – indeed, for 1999 they were revolutionary – it’s just, running on Crysis’ engine, it now looks better.
All you need to download the mod is a trial version of Crysis Wars. After that, you can grab a demo of Open Outcast from the mod’s official site. If you’ve never played the original, I’d highly recommend it.

Metal Gear Arcade, which has been sneaking under the radar since its unveiling last June, is playable at Japan’s AOU Expo this week. To mark the occasion, Konami has released a new trailer and two new screenshots of the Metal Gear Online-based arcade cabinet. The trailer is available on the game’s website.
Konami has also provided a first look at the 3D glasses used to enable the game’s “Integral Vision” effect. It’s going to be totally worth putting on those goofy glasses, even after some sweaty guy just used them: not only do they create a 3D effect, the glasses also enable head-tracking. Where you look, Snake looks. To further immerse you in the experience, Metal Gear Arcade also has a mic for voice chat and a giant speaker system surrounding your head. !.

We wouldn’t blame you if you’re hesitant to trust your cold, unfeeling game console with your credit card information — when that thing inevitably goes sentient, you just know its just going to go on an overpriced accessory-shopping spree. Fortunately, there’s other ways to obtain content on the Xbox Live Marketplace; for instance, a recently added GameStop listing has revealed that Borderlands‘ two DLC packs, The Zombie Island of Dr. Ned and Mad Moxxi’s Underdome Riot, will soon be bundled together in a retail package for the 360 and PC.
The bundle, which is set to drop February 23, will be priced at $19.99, which is how much the DLC would cost if purchased separately on the Marketplace. Only, now you’re also paying sales tax, meaning you’re buying an expansion pack and paying for a few pages of a public elementary school textbook. How nice of you!
[Thanks to everyone who sent this in!]

Let me tell you something. It’s rough being one of the few Joystiq editors that isn’t currently knee-deep in the space-faring magic of Mass Effect 2. The constant insults, the pointing and laughing, the threats on my life; it gets old really fast. And now Electronic Arts has to announce that Mass Effect 2 has already shipped two million units worldwide in its first week. The press release also notes that the game has earned more than 40 perfect review scores. And, of course, the Joystiq review drips with effusive, well-earned praise. I get it, okay? I need to play it, and I will, just as soon as soon as I finish the first Mass Effect.
Oh, gotta go. Looks like Justin is putting another stink bomb in my lunch box.

Kevin T. Singer is currently serving a life sentence for murdering his sister’s boyfriend. He’s also challenging the prison’s rights to take away his Dungeons & Dragons.
Incarcerated at the Waupun Correctional Institution in Wisconsin in 2002, Singer had for two years been not only playing D&D with his cellmates, but had in his possession several books on the subject, and had even written his own 96-page scenario.
In 2004, however, the prison banned the game after an anonymous inmate complained that Singer and his friends were forming a “gang” around the game.
His game and reference materials were then confiscated by prison guards, on the grounds that they promoted “fantasy role playing, competitive hostility, violence, addictive escape behaviors, and possible gambling”.
Singer appealed the prison’s decision, but earlier this week 7th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals rejected his pleas, on the grounds that “punishment is a fundamental aspect of imprisonment”.

Alright, alright, not really — they’re just screenshots, folks! But these four new screens do most assuredly feature Red Dead Redemption’s main hero (and his buddy Marshall Johnson) sneaking up on a variety of old West bad guys to, presumably, take them out — the folks at Rockstar claim that these shots are about “taking cover,” but we can see with our own eyes that they’re clearly about clandestinely poppin’ fools.
We’ve still got a few more months before the game’s scheduled release date of April 27, and as such, we’d be willing to bet this isn’t the last we’ve seen of Mr. Marston and his U.S. Marshall buddies.

As you’d expect, upcoming Hollywood film Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time – based loosely on the game of the same name – will have merchandising tie-ins. Like action figures. These are those action figures.
Due out in May, there’ll be a range of 4″ figures and a range of 6″ figures, along with some playsets and horses to go with them.
