Bayonetta’s Scarborough Fair: How High Heels, Herbs Influenced Weapon Design [Platinumgames]

I really dig PlatinumGames’ Bayonetta, especially after being able to finally go hands-on with the game at E3. I also really appreciate the insight the developer is providing into the game’s design, which today focuses on Bayonetta’s guns, Scarborough Fair.

PlatinumGames designer Muneyuki “Johnny” Kotegawa illustrates how the ornately designed guns, which Bayonetta can also strap to her feet, went from initial concept to final firearm. The final product borrows design elements from the classic Derringer pistol, but also from high-heeled shoes and the herbs parsley, sage, rosemary and thyme.

When the Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3 game is released later this year, I don’t expect we’ll have the time to appreciate little details like this. So now’s a perfect time to read about pistol design.
